affordable and good value but tended to be fairly busy to schedule. food choices were good and never usually any wait for seating and nice to have 3 different options for food. mainly an adults resort which is what we were looking for with limited kids. location was a little further south of holetown and not walking distance to shops and such but buses were easily accessible. resort had power generator issues during our stay and power was intermittent for 2-3 days. hopefully this is completely resolved. pools were adequate but small. no view of beach from either pool. staff was friendly and helpful. if you are looking for a relaxing vacation that is affordable with good quality food and don't want to hassle with exploring the island, then this is a good option. we actually enjoyed husband and i chose to stay at waves for a week long vacation to barbados at the end of oct. two of my biggest concerns in general about barbados were safety and cleanliness. i used this as the primary determining factor when it came to our choice of hotel. all things considered, i feel waves was a great decision! first impression - the airport is simple, clean and easy to navigate. the car rental companies are located outside and easy to find. the rental process is relatively quick and easy. for a us citizen, i think driving on the opposite side of the road is always a bit stressful and intimidating at first. don't let that stop you from renting a car. i strongly suggest getting the gps, it makes it so much easier to get around and eliminates car fights! the hotel itself is smaller and does not offer typical resort curb appeal. it is also located off of a busy road which divides the resort into two sections. the lobby is small, but you will easily find the front desk. check in was fast and the employees were very kind. because we checked in late and the restaurants were closed, they sent sandwiches up to our room without us having to ask. their customer service was refreshing for the caribbean. now for my lasting impressions - as mentioned, we are us citizens. most guests at this hotel are not. i don't think the nationality of a guest matters, but you find they tend to cater more-so to the uk. daily tea in the afternoon and 220v outlets in all spa side rooms are examples of this. all other outlets in the main building are 110v which is standard in the us. we were originally given a great ocean view room on the spa side of the resort. luckily we were moved to the main building after voicing the concern. there are not a lot of rooms (smaller hotel), so i'm sure this isn't always an option. traveling with a converter would be best. i will admit, the rooms in the main building are nicer. not only is the view more spectacular, but even the building seems to be in better shape, newer. no matter your location, your room will be clean. this we found to be consistent. the spa side also has the whistling frogs, which are loud at night. you can hardly hear them if you are ocean front. the pool is pretty, nice location for relaxing, but a bit cloudy water and floating debris make it uncomfortable for just hanging out in the water. also, don't worry about crossing the busy road. the locals will stop for you at the crosswalk. watch the buses, most won't stop. we ate at all of the restaurants, the food is very good, especially at feast. the only restaurant we didn't care for was rosso vivo. the buffets were good, but standard. i would have liked to see a unique morning juice bar or something that would have stepped it up a bit, but it was adequate. also, no restaurants or buffet is open 24x7. room service is available, but will run you $5.00usd (plus tip) each time you order and the late night (after 10pm) menu is very limited. our overall suggestion would be to use the hotel for it's breakfast and book a late dinner. use the day to explore the island and experience their culture. there is so much to see and do. it's beautiful and safe to explore, just be smart. the locals are great, so kind. we never felt intimidated by our surroundings. also, stop off at the gas station and fill your fridge with some drinks. your minibar is only filled every other day and it won't be enough to last you. the bar is open until 11:00, but afterwards you're on your own. take the free catamaran trip, it's a nice time. it's only 2 hours. we took our own mask and snorkel and wished we would have taken our fins. they do not supply this. the small catamaran is a calm ride up the coast and they'll serve you two drinks. the snorkeling in front of the hotel isn't too bad. we saw a lot of puffer fish, an eel and even had a giant school of fish swim past us a few times. the best location seemed to be to the right of the roped off area in front of the hotel. we also had a swedish massage at the spa. we did the hour long couple massage. the massage itself was wonderful. i usually like a very deep massage, but they had great technique and would rank it as one of my best. the facilities for the couple massage were not the nicest, but again it was clean and not an issue. the hotel is staffed with wonderful people who go out of their way to make you happy. they will get to know you on a personal level, which is far more than we've come to expect at a lot of the destinations we tend to visit. it's a unique island with a lot of safe, warm. the resort shared the same characteristics. on top of that it was secluded and offered a lot of privacy for couples. this is not a resort for kids. the food was fantastic, especially for was able to get in touch with the right person at waves to confirm that i could reschedule our stay for later in the week, but once i was able to reach them, they were very easy-going about our date change. the check-in process was quick and easy and within 10 minutes of arrival, my husband and i were snuggled into our room. we were on the adults-only spa block of the resort, and our room was cozy with a semi-private porch area looking out to the garden and pool. we loved everything about our room except the shower and toilet. there was no water pressure which made it unbelievably difficult to wash my hair, which is thick but not very long. it usually took about three flushes to clear the toilet of the simplest waste. the other thing about our room was the power. we're american and when we did our research on barbados, everything said the island uses us power outlets and we wouldn't need to bring any adapters. however, the spa block at waves is on uk power, which was not made known to us before our arrival and finding that type of adapter on the island was literally impossible. luckily, the main block was on us power, so we were able to charge our camera at the front desk. just be prepared if you're traveling from the us and staying in the spa! the staff at the resort is exceptionally friendly and helpful, and i was almost always greeted by my name even when there were different people at the desk. it was like cheers! the restaurant food was incredible and the ambiance is very romantic for dinner and laid back for lunch and breakfast. we tried all three restaurants for dinner and the only one we found lacking was rosso vivo, where the service was so slow that we ended up leaving before anyone even made it to us to take our dessert order. the food there was good, but not spectacular as it was at seascapes and feast. tip: if you eat at feast for dinner and they have the bbq pulled pork listed as a starter, order it! it's a sushi roll, and it was the most delicious thing i have ever eaten. ever. even my husband who doesn't like sushi wanted more. i could go on and on and on about this place because i really enjoyed my stay. our trip was far most relaxing experience we ever had. all meals provided. clean, neat rooms, great facilities, excellent front desk and bar staff {would love to call names but don't want to call wrong}, accessible shopping. met an adorable couple as well, we still keep in touch! food was magnificent, variety of drinks was great. only had one bad experience at the beach with an uninformed beach staff member, very upsetting, but wasn't enough to spoil our week. improvements needed where due. we really look forward to returning to the upgraded facilities sometime once life permits us. keep it up! book now
